Police in Anambra have arrested a notorious robbery kingpin, Mr Ikechukwu Udensi AKA Ikanda who was declared wanted last year for killing a trader, Mr Ndubuisi Nwokolo in Onitsha.

Ikanda, who is known to be very notorious around Onitsha axis, and also has several boys working for him had last year murdered the 38-year-old businessman in broad daylight, for attempting to save a commercial motorcyclist conveying him from being extorted by Ikanda and his boys.

A N1million bounty was put on the head of the notorious criminal by the Anambra State government for anyone who can provide information that could lead to his arrest, as he was said to be powerful and also works for several big politicians in the state who always effect his release, each time he was arrested.

Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr Mustapha Dandaura who paraded Ikanda before journalists said he was arrested on Sunday in Onitsha, following a tip-off, while sneaking into the town to collect proceeds of illegal toll collection from his men.

Dandaura said, “We had launched an aggressive manhunt for him after the killing in June 2018, and on Sunday, 31 March 2019, following painstaking intelligence and strategic planning, police operatives attached to command operation Udoka and special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) raided criminal hideouts at Menax near flyover in Onitsha and arrested the notorious suspect.”

The commissioner also paraded five men, Abuchi Nwogwu, Okwudili Nwanne, Mmaduabuchi Obia, Chiedozie Orah and Ekechi Chukwuemeka who were said to have set ablaze a police station in Ajalli, Orumba South LGA, shortly before the general elections and carted away three AK 47 riffles.

Dandaura said the men who are suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB)had during the incident also wounded a police DCO.

Upon interrogation, the suspects took police operatives to their criminal hideout and one AK47 rifle with breech number KO3588792 which was carted at the police station was recovered.

Also, one Chimaobi Amauwa, a 25 years old man suspected to be a member of a one-chance robbery gang which operates around Onitsha axis was also paraded.

The suspects owned up to the crime, except Ikanda, who insisted that the killing of the businessman was done by his boys and not himself.

Dandaura said investigations were ongoing in all the cases, and that the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution afterwards.
