Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

Introduction

The Office of Disability Services is excited to announce our first scholarship opportunity for students with disabilities. This year, two scholarships will be awarded for $500 each. One scholarship will be given to a student who has a physical disability and one to a student who has a learning disability. Eligible students must self-identify their disability with the Office of Disability Services and be registered for classes during the Spring 2019 semester. A committee will review all applications, and two scholarships will be awarded in early April 2019. Applicants should submit an application form along with an essay (250 words or less) answering the following question:

The Office of Disability Services is excited to announce our first scholarship opportunity for students with disabilities.

This scholarship competition aims to provide financial assistance to students diagnosed with a disability within the past five years and registered in a full-time undergraduate program at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM).

Two scholarships will be awarded for $500 each. One scholarship will be given to a student with a physical disability and one to a student with a learning disability. The winners will be selected based on their essay responses which should describe the following:

How do you feel about having your support system while attending college?
What challenges have you experienced while being disabled?
What have been some of your struggles since being diagnosed with a disability?

Eligible students must self-identify their disability with the Office of Disability Services and be registered for classes during the Spring 2019 semester.

Students must be full-time at the time of application and enrolled in 12 or more credit hours during fall 2018, spring 2019, or summer 2019 semesters. Students must be US citizens or permanent residents with a valid Social Security number.

A committee will review all applications, and two scholarships will be awarded for $500 each.

Applications are due by January 12, 2019 (the deadline may be extended).

Two scholarships will be awarded for $500 each. Each scholarship is renewable for one additional year if recipients maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and continue to demonstrate financial need, as evidenced by the FAFSA or W-2 forms annually.

One scholarship will be given to a student who has a physical disability and one to a student who has a learning disability.

As a student with a learning disability, you can apply for one of the scholarships through the DAI Scholarship Fund.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

Have an apparent physical disability (such as blindness) or learning disability (such as dyslexia), which their doctor or school counsellor documents.
Be at least 18 by December 1 of the year they are applying and entering their first year of college.
Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher on your last 60 high school credits (including all AP/IB courses, dual credit courses and any other advanced classes).

This scholarship will benefit the student by allowing them to study at a university, which wouldn’t have been possible without it.
This scholarship will benefit the university by attracting more students and increasing diversity on campus, which will help make it more diverse!
This scholarship will benefit the student’s family because they can rest easy knowing their child is getting an education that will prepare them for a successful future career in whatever field they choose.
This scholarship will benefit the student’s community by making it easier for them to get an education that fits their needs; this makes it easier for people with disabilities who live in remote areas where there aren’t any accessible colleges nearby to access higher education opportunities; like never before!
