The 17 local government chairmen of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Abia state, have insisted that the suspension of the state chairman, Hon. Chidi Nwosu, still stands.
The body led by Chief Chijioke Ozems stated on Monday that Nwosu was sacked over alleged anti-party activities.
He announced that the body which is part of the state working committee of SDP had appointed Mr. Chukwudi Abengowe as the chairman of a caretaker committee to pilot the affairs of the party in the interim, while Hon. Chidim Philips will serve as the secretary of committee.
Speaking shortly after his appointment, Abengowe, who was the former organising secretary of the party, said his appointment was for the general interest of the members of the party across the state.
He pointed out that the affairs of the party would no longer be family affairs again.
He congratulated Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on his victory at the just concluded governorship election in the state.
He stated that the party had adopted Ikpeazu in the run-up to the election because it thought it wise that he should complete his second term in office.
