Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for Imo state governorship election, Emeka Ihedioha, has been declared winner of the poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec).
Ihedioha polled 273,404 votes to defeat the Action Alliance candidate (AA), Uche Nwosu, who polled 190,360 votes, while Senator Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came third, with 96,458 votes.
Concise News had reported that collation of governorship election results was suspended in Imo due to violence that erupted at the collation centre in Owerri, the state capital.
It was learned that PDP, AA, AD and RP agents reportedly tore the governorship election result sheets for Ideato South, the local government area of Governor Rochas Okorocha.
They protested the announcement of the results, claiming it was manipulated to favour Okorocha’s preferred candidate, Nwosu of the AA.
